Huge news from Spain today. Marriage equality is sweeping the globe!

On November 6, four states will be voting for or against allowing marriage equality in their state.

If you are 18 or older, live in either Maryland, Maine, Minnesota, or Washington State, and support marriage equality, please do your part by registering to vote and voting in favor of equal rights. 

If you are underage and/or you do not live in these states, please reblog this so that people can be informed. 

Guys, signal boost this and FAST. In only a couple of days, the governor of California will be asked to sign a law officially legalizing "anti-gay therapy" which teaches young homosexuals to hate themselves. Sign this and get this to his desk before anti-gay extremists get theirs to him first. Still need over 20,000 signatures, but if anyone can get that many fast, it's Tumblr. Pleeease spread this!

It still shocks (and mostly just disappoints) me how SHOCKED people are when I tell them that it is 100% legal to be fired simply for being gay.

They look at me like I’m lying and say things like “nooooo, that can’t be right?”.

I have been fired twice (in Ohio) for being openly gay.

I have been asked:

• to not wear my wedding ring
• Not acknowledge my wife’s existence
• To “just say you have a husband”
• To just not answer “yes” when people ask if I’m married because “you’re not REALLY married”
• To not bring my wife to the company FAMILY Christmas party
• Let people just assume we’re sisters
• Just make it easier on everyone and “just say you’re divorced”

These were not requests made from some Mom and Pop shop, I was a corporate executive for a large chain of high volume restaurants. My boss was the Director of Human Resources, and she would walk into my office and say the most ignorant things you can imagine.

People in America need to be educated on the reality that is life as a gay person in  this country.

It’s not all gay pride parades and appletinis. 

We need a leg to stand on.

We need people to wake up and educate themselves on the rights we are denied.

We need people…gay, straight, and in between, to open their eyes, stop ignoring what doesn’t directly effect them, and educate themselves.

In all of the states colored red, it is also legal to fire (or refuse to hire) someone on the basis of gender identity or expression. In addition, in Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachussetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, and Wisconsin, it’s illegal to fire (or refuse to hire) someone on the basis of sexual orientation, but it is legal to fire (or refuse to hire) on the basis of gender identity and expression (source here). That’s why it was such a big deal when people wanted to cut gender identity and expression out of ENDA.

I’ll also point out that even in states where it’s illegal to discriminate in employment on the basis of sexual orientation and/or gender identity or expression, it still happens. A lot.

Fish Huang and You Ya-ting became the first same-sex couple to marry in a Buddhist ceremony in Taiwan this weekend, hoping it will prompt government officials to recognize marriage equality. Their wedding is historic and symbolic, though unfortunately not legally binding. 

“We are witnessing history. The two women are willing to stand out and fight for their fate… to overcome social discrimination,” Buddhist minister Shih Chao-hui said, according to AFP, with nearly 300 Buddhist attendees chanting sutras to bless the couple. The brides’ parents did not attend because of concerns about the media attention.

This is my friend and her girlfriend. The girl on the right was killed last night, by what is thought to be a hate crime. They were on a date. They were both shot and dumped in tall grass. They were found this morning by a couple while they were out for a walk. (This is all we know right now)
Mollie has passed but her girlfriend, Kristene, is still alive. She is in very critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head. Please pray for her. Think about them. Pass this on. Something. Please. We need her to come through so the people that did this can be put in their rightful spot.

my mom just gave me a refresher course of reasons that makes me hate christianity. i have rainbows on my nails and the words “pride month” covering them to celebrate this month being pride month. she saw them while we were in the car and said “sadness”, to which i retorted with “i don’t see what there is to be sad about” and then she goes off on this whole thing about how being gay is a sin and like i’m sorry that i was born a sin, mom.

If being gay is such a sin, then she should let God and Jesus do their work in handling that. She shouldn’t presume to judge people based on their sins. I’m not a Christian, but I know Jesus chilled out with prostitutes, lepers, poor folk, rich folk, and really anyone who wanted to bro around with him. Jesus didn’t give a fuck about where you came from and who you were. He would accept you nonetheless. Your mom should stop being a judgmental asshole. Don’t hate Christianity. Hate the bigots who use the religion to justify their ignorance, hatred, and misunderstanding of others.

You have such a way with words, Grumpylord, that truly amazes me. Besides of the good laughter I earned for the great way you express your idea, I cannot help the fact of agreeing with your statement.

I love thinking Jesus really chilled out with ppl. Any kind of ppl.
